I've Got Roots

To start us off, I would like to talk about Roots.

Unlike the song, No Roots by Alice Merton, it is our # 1 responsibility to care for our roots. This location of our head provides the hair with oils needed to grow long and thick. Many times I have cut my hair shorter, in order to start over. But what I did not understand was that it was the roots that needed care and rejuvenation. By revitalizing our roots, the nutrients will spread to the ends of the hair naturally. So how can we make our roots healthier and maintain the health of the roots?

  1. DO NOT scratch: this is something that I have fallen victim to. Scratching your hair actually leads to hair fall and develops bald spots on our scalp. Additionally, continuous scratching could also lead to bad infections.

  2. In both oily and dry situations, we need to brush our hair at least twice a day. This makes our hair grow by spreading the nutrients and oils from the roots to the ends of our hair.

Too Dry:

  • Use oil -  like coconut oil and aloe vera oil, and wash it off 30 mins. later.

  • While washing your hair, in a container dilute the shampoo and condition a lot.

  • Keep your hair in braids. The braids will lock the oils in.

Too Oily:

  • Our hair becomes oily, when our body overproduces our natural oils.

  • To omit this overproduction of oils, we have to put oil in our hair either twice a week , so that our body stops the overproduction. Not only will this make our hair stronger and thicker, but it will also make our hair less oily.
