We are in the midst of a global Health crisis , and most of us are forced to be home. We've heard this before - Necessity is the mother of invention and many people including celebrities are starting to experiment DIY personal grooming for example - at home haircuts and hair dyes etc….
However, the times have changed and technological advancements have formulated dyes that are paraben free and free of harsh chemicals. Many have been able to trust these new dye companies to safely color their hair without damage to the thickness or health of their manes.
So without further ado, these are some of the trustworthy brands that I have done some research on.
Punky Colour: dye does not contain acids, not tested on animals, and does not require peroxide to apply dye.
oVertone: dye that coats color that omits ammonia and peroxide, which prevents the hair from being damaged.
Manic Panic: dye that has been known to be “tested on celebrities, not on animals”. This dye omits ammonia, peroxide, and PPD. All of their products are vegan as well. This company is very eco-friendly and if you order a product via the website, the package shipped to you is made of biodegradable peanuts. ( We must support companies like these to put a stop to climate change and address the issue).
Henna: Not only is this dye completely natural, but unlike other dyes, this dye strengthens, thickens, and makes your hair shinier during this process. When applying Henna to your hair, it balances the pH levels in our hair and scalp(I’ve got roots).
How do we maintain our hair during this dye process?
In most situations, the dye company already has a pre-packaged shampoo and conditioner that the customer has to use on their hair during the duration of the dye. However, we must stay faithful to our healthy hair routine, such as root care, and brushing, and the same hair wash and condition process.
Do I (personally) recommend dyeing hair?
While the product may say that it is safe and natural, it doesn’t take away from the fact that we are applying a lot of chemicals to our hair that will strip it of natural oils already in our hair, causing our hair to look damaged and dried out. We must still be careful on how many times we dye our hair. We should not dye our hair every month but rather every 3 months, so we can give our hair time to rejuvenate and heal. So, in conclusion I believe that it is a fun activity that can be repeated, but with a limit, so that our hair will still be thickening and growing even in and during this process.
